Feeler for VT car show

802Subaru is considering hosting a car show, open to all makes & models for anyone in the surrounding areas.

We’re in the beginning phase of this plan and we’re looking for input on how many people may be interested in showing up, what locations work best in VT for people, and what you’d like to see at the show as far as potential vendors, events, activities, etc.

The time frame that we’re looking for is possibly late Spring into Summer.

Feel free to start shouting some ideas on our forum! Any sort of feedback is appreciated.

New location for this week’s SubaruSaturday

IHOP

We’ll be hanging out at IHOP this Saturday, starting at 6PM. They’re letting us use their larger space.

As far as parking and hanging out for the sake of seeing each others’ cars… We haven’t picked a specific spot in the UMall parking garage, but you will see the large cluster of Subarus.

For those who don’t know where IHOP is, it is located in the UMall and has its own entrance.

Address: 155 Dorset St, South Burlington, VT 05403

You can also RSVP via the Facebook Event page

SOPA

As you may have heard, SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) is a bill that is trying to be passed that will censor the Internet, and hand the keys over to the US Federal Government for control.

Quote from Wikipedia:

The bill would allow the U.S. Department of Justice, as well as copyright holders, to seek court orders against websites accused of enabling or facilitating copyright infringement. Depending on who requests the court orders, the actions could include barring online advertising networks and payment facilitators such as PayPal from doing business with the allegedly infringing website, barring search engines from linking to such sites, and requiring Internet service providers to block access to such sites. The bill would make unauthorized streaming of copyrighted content a felony. The bill also gives immunity to Internet services that voluntarily take action against websites dedicated to infringement, while making liable for damages any copyright holder who knowingly misrepresents that a website is dedicated to infringement.

GoDaddy has chosen to support SOPA, and consequently has lost 802Subaru’s business.

What does this mean for 802Subaru? Nothing!

We are simply moving our domain name registration over to a different registrar; and if you’re curious our web host (DreamHost) is also anti-SOPA.

Why is 802Subaru taking this stance? Our fearless leaders believe in innovation, in the automotive world and in the technology sector, including the Internet. SOPA paves the way for warrantless bullying from the DoJ and that goes against our beliefs as a group.

If you’re a website owner and you manage the domain name and or hosting, we’d like to suggest switching to DreamHost and using promo code “802SUBARU” – we’re offering a free life-time domain registration with that code and a discount off of the hosting services. More details are in the forum.

In case you’re asking “where’s the money going?” This raffle is being donated by the admins and our hope is to use its proceeds for future raffles and club-sponsored events. We (the admins) are not being reimbursed by the proceeds; we’re doing this to attempt to spark member involvement and to build a stronger community. ALL proceeds are going to be tracked for club-related expenses only. So please participate! Then we can hold more raffles and other events (probably with food!).
